1968 was great year for enthusiasts looking for a Dodge muscle car. In the spring of 1968 the Dodge division of Chrysler would introduce the “Coronet Super Bee”, a budget muscle car with a base price of $3,027.
Based on the Dodge Coronet coupe, the Super Bee offered buyers a 383 Magnum big block v8 engine with a four barrel carburetor, a four-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter, heavy duty suspension and brakes. Options included an automatic transmission and the legendary 426 Hemi v8 engine. This option but added $1000 to the cost, Dodge only built 125 examples.
On the inside, the Super Bee included a bench seat, carpeting, vinyl seats and door panels. The padded matte black rallye dash included a circular speedometer, oil and temperature gauges and a electric clock. A matching tachometer was offered as an option.
Riding on redline wide oval tires, the body of the Super Bee featured a bumble bee strip around the rear including a big Super Bee emblems on the rear fenders. Bright wheel lips and rear body panel accents were also included. The front grille was finished in matte black and included large Dodge brand lettering and quad headlights with bright moldings. The 1968 Dodge Super Bee hood featured a non functional power bulge.
