1968 Dodge Super Bee

Introduced in the spring of 1968, the Super Bee was a budget muscle car sold by the Dodge Division of Chrysler. With a base price of $3,027 the Super Bee offered buyers an affordable high performance Mopar. The base engine was a 383 four barrel cid v8 rated at 335 hp, the 426 HEMI was also available for an extra $1000. The Super Bee featured a heavy duty suspension and brakes, a four-speed manual transmission with Hurst Competition Plus shifter, and redline wide oval tires. On the outside the super bee featured racing strips circling the tail with a big Super Bee emblem on the rear fenders. The Super Bee’s hood featured a decorative power bulge. The Dodge Super Bee was a direct competitor to Plymouth’s Road Runner with both using the same basic chassis and engine and weighted about the same.

1969 Dodge Super Bee

In 1969, the radical 440 Six-Pack was added to the Super Bee’s list of engine options. The Six Pack option added three Holly two-barrel carburetors on top of the 440 Magnum V-8, the Super Bee generated 390 horsepower and 490 lb.-ft.of torque.

1970 Dodge Super Bee

Restyled for 1970, the Super Bee received new front bumper and grille and taillamps. Base price was lowered and several high impact colors were added. Base engine was the high performance 383 magnum V8 with a 3 speed manual shifted transmission. The 440 Magnum six-pack and 426 Hemi engines were available at extra cost. Last year the Super Bee would be based on the Dodge Coronet.

1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee

The Super Bee was switched to the Charger model for 1971 but continued to offer its impressive engine line-up, as well as its heavy duty suspension. The Hemi-power 1971 Super Bee could reach 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and ran the quarter mile in only 13.7 seconds. In its brief original four year run, the name Super Bee reached legendary status by giving the customer an ultra-high performance vehicle that they could drive to work during the week, yet take to the track on the weekend and outperform the competition.
